Important Changes for Teen Driving Classes

Starting September 1st, 2023, the State of Tennessee now requires all 14-year-old students attending Teen Driving Classes to have a “Pending Letter” showing they’ve applied for and been approved for a Hardship License. Without this letter, your teen will not be allowed to attend the class. No exceptions.

State Written Test:
As of December 29th, 2017, driving schools can no longer give the State Written Learner’s Permit test. All students must take this test at the DMV. Driving schools will help prepare students for it.

Road Test Requirements:

  • Your teen must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to take the Road Test for an additional fee of $63.
  • Students must complete a 36-hour driving school class with a passing grade and have a Tennessee permit.
  • Road Test scores are valid for 1 year.

Note: No driving or simulator appointments will be scheduled during classroom days. These can be arranged after the final classroom day.
